What is frozen hot chocolate made of?
- Plant-based milk: You can use any variety of plant-based milk for this recipe, so choose your favorite! Include oat milk, coconut milk, almond milk, cashew milk, or any type you enjoy.
- Cocoa powder: I suggest using a high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor. If you end up using chocolate plant-based milk, only include 2 tbsp cocoa powder when adding the ingredients to your blender.
- Maple syrup: This frozen hot chocolate is refined sugar-free. Instead, it’s sweetened with real maple syrup. Alternatively, you can use coconut sugar, medjool dates, coconut nectar, or agave.
- Vanilla extract: A dash of vanilla extract balances the rich chocolate.
- Cinnamon: A quarter teaspoon of ground cinnamon add a delicious warm flavor. Feel free to include more if you’re a cinnamon lover.
- Sea salt: Only a pinch of salt is needed.
- Ice: It wouldn’t be “frozen” without the ice! Add 3-4 cups to achieve a thick, icy, and refreshing beverage.

This was a great recipe thank you. I used 2-3 cups of almond milk, 2 heaped tblsp of cacao powder (1/4 cup for me is too strong), 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla essence, ice cubes and 3 heaped tblsp of vanilla ice cream and it was delicious! Perfect for a hot summers day like today. Sending love and light from Perth, Western Australia
Thank you so much, Lilly! I am so glad you enjoyed this frozen hot chocolate ๐
How could this have 165 calories when 1 ingredient (maple syrup) is already 200 calories?
Hey, Clementine! That’s because you are reading the nutrition label incorrectly. Whenever you read a nutrition label, the term “yield” means “servings per recipe.” In other words, the “yield” of a recipe is the number of servings the entire recipe makes. As you can see, the yield for this recipe is 2. That means it makes 2 servings. As always, the nutrition facts are for 1 serving. Enjoy! xo
