Are bliss balls healthy?
Yes! Bliss balls, also known as energy balls, contain a combination of dates and nuts. Both of these ingredients are loaded with vitamins and minerals. Check out the healthy ingredients in these pecan pie bliss balls below. Bliss balls are versatile, too. You can include virtually any type of nut and seed in the recipe. This allows you to make variations based off of the ingredients in your pantry, or the specific nutrients you want to consume.
The reason I love this particular recipe is because it’s a bite-sized, healthier alternative to traditional pecan pie. Check out a few of the healthy ingredients:
- Oats: Oats are packed with fiber and several nutrients, including manganese, phosphorus, copper, and B vitamins.
- Pecans: Pecans contain potent antioxidants and are rich in minerals.
- Hemp seeds: Hemp seeds are protein-packed, packed with fiber, and contain a healthy omega-3 to omega-6 ratio.
- Medjool dates: Medjool dates are a natural sweetener and contain antioxidants and fiber.
- Cinnamon: Cinnamon has ant-inflammatory properties, may lower blood sugar levels, and is filled with antioxidants.

Bliss balls are one of the easiest recipes to make. Essentially, you add ingredients into a food processor, allow the food processor to form dough, and then roll the dough into balls. Boom. Done!
- Combine oats, pecans, medjool dates, almonds, hemp seeds, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt in a food processor.
- Process the ingredients until a sticky dough is formed.
- Use clean hands to roll the dough into 1-inch balls.
- Store bliss balls in the refrigerator to firm and maintain freshness.
Kaylie’s tips:
- Use fresh, soft medjool dates. The recipe works best with soft and gooey medjool dates. However, if your dates are super dry, no worries! Simply add the dates to hot water and soak them for 5 minutes. After, drain the water and pat the dates completely dry. Then, continue on with the recipe.
- Create sticky dough. If you are struggling to create a sticky dough in the food processor, add 1-2 tbsp of water and process again. This will increase the moisture and help the dough stick together.
- Store in an airtight container. Place these pecan pie bliss balls in the pantry to maintain a soft texture. Alternatively, place in the refrigerator or freezer.
- Decorate the bliss balls. If you’d like, you can roll each ball into hemp seeds, shredded coconut, or cacao powder. Another great option is to drizzle melted chocolate on top of them. Yum!

Is there a good substitution for the hemp seeds?
Hi Lesley! You could use chia seeds instead 🙂
